Tournament Rules

The Mater Dei Premier Invitational is a Varsity girls soccer tournament, organized and sponsored by Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, and sanctioned by the CIF Southern Section.

Each participating team is guaranteed TWO games of pool play and a 3rd game on Friday over three days. Then there will be one Championship Showcase game on Saturday.

The 4 teams emerging from pool play with the highest point total for their respective Group will compete in the Semi-Final Round, then 2nd Place will play other 2nd Place teams, and then 3rd Place teams will play other 3rd Place teams on Friday. The winners of the Semi-Final games will play for the Championship Showcase game on Saturday at 11:00 p.m.

Points will be awarded during pool play using the following ten-point system:

Any tie in total points between teams at the end of pool play will be resolved on the following basis:

Semi-Finals, 2nd Place Games, 3rd Place Games

DISPUTES: The Competition Director and Tournament Director will settle all disputes and the decision will be final.

If a Semi-Final or Championship game ends in a tie at the end of regulation play, there will be a single (15) fifteen-minute overtime period. If that overtime period ends in a tie, a winner will be determined by a penalty-kick shootout.

Pool games, Semi-Final Game, the 2nd Place Games, and the 3rd Place Games will be 70 minutes, with 35-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime.

The Championship game will be 80 minutes, with forty-minute halves and a ten-minute halftime.
