Tournament Rules

The Mater Dei Premier Invitational is a Varsity girls soccer tournament, organized and sponsored by Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, and sanctioned by the CIF Southern Section.

Each participating team is guaranteed three games of pool play over three days.

The 4 teams emerging from pool play with the highest point total for their respective pool will compete in the Semi-Final Round on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The winners of the Semi-Final games will play for the Championship on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Points will be awarded during pool play using the following ten-point system:

Any tie in total points between teams at the end of pool play will be resolved on the following basis:

Home Team: The Home Team will be the team whose name appears first for each game on the game schedule. The Home Team will be required to wear white home jerseys to accommodate a color conflict as declared by the referee. If the Home Team cannot supply alternate jerseys, the Home Team will forfeit the game. The Home Team will have the selection of the side of the field they wish to play from. No two teams will play from the same side of the field.

Forfeits & Byes: Home Teams unable to supply alternate jerseys and teams that fail to report ready to play within five (5) minutes of the scheduled kick-off time will forfeit their game 1-0. The winner will be awarded eight (8) points (six for the win, one for the goal, and one for the shutout). The same will be awarded for a bye.

PROTESTS: No protests will be allowed.

DISPUTES: The competition director or his designee will settle all disputes and the decision will be final.

If a Semi-Final or Championship game ends in a tie at the end of regulation play, there will be a single (15) fifteen-minute overtime period. If that overtime period ends in a tie, a winner will be determined by a shootout.

Pool games will be 70 minutes, with 35-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime.

The Semi-Final and Championship games will be 80 minutes, with forty-minute halves and a ten-minute halftime.

The rules of the tournament will be NHSSA rules.
